Everyone from our class raced and we all did really well! We were placed in almost all the races, but the yr8 race was different, there was only two people, Martin and I...
This is my recount on what happened during the backstroke race:
“I would’ve won… But my shorts fell down”. Well, that’s my excuse anyway. Martin and I were the only Yr8 male swimmers in the area so at the Matiere yesterday we raced against each other in every single race.I was so close to beating martin in the backstroke race yesterday – I think I was even in front of him for a while… The backstroke race started like all of the others. “Take your marks,” the announcer’s voice cut through the chatter of the crowd. Martin and I hopped into the pool and gripped the edge. Elbows bent. Legs crunched.
“Get set.”
The crowd went silent.
“BANG” The started blocks slammed together. But I didn’t notice that, I was too focused from launching away from the concrete wall they call a swimming pool.
As we swam down the pool – neck and neck - I felt something fall down. I tried to ignore it, but I couldn’t. If I waited any longer my shorts would be floating in the pool – no joke.
I reached down and pulled my shorts up. This was the moment that I lost the race. Martin kept going because he didn’t have any tog troubles. I tried to catch up but we were too close to the end of the pool – there was no time. I stopped at the end of the race, and a lady said “You could’ve won if you slammed your hands on the edge, it would’ve only hurt for a week.” In my head I thought “It was that close?”
Next year, I will win, I’ll buy some shorts that won’t fall down...

I really like the way you have described this scene - very funny. Great writing! You can go back into the blog and edit any mistakes that you have made with punctuation. Can you see any?
ReplyDeleteWould love to see some photos (although not of the togs falling off). Well done, Zach.
Hi Leigh, Thank-you for your comment- we really enjoyed reading it. We were wondering if your use of short sentences and a hyphen was intentional due to our recent post about these two pieces of punctuation, or is it just how you normally would write? We look forward to your reply, from some intrigued students.
DeleteZach I love your sense of humour. What a recount to read on your 21st birthday!
